Driver License

An Alabama driver's license may be renewed at any Mobile County License Commissioner office.  Fee is $23.00.  If you lose your driver's license, a duplicate can be issued with the proper identification for a fee of $18.00.  At least two of the below listed items are required to be issued a duplicate driver's license:

  1. Social Security Card
  2. Certified birth certificate (required for all 14-15 year old and first applicants)
  3. Active, retired, reserve, or dependent military ID card 
  4. Other state driver license or previously held Alabama driver license that has not expired
  5. Passport (must have I-94 for foreign students)
  6. Certificate of U. S. Citizenship (form N-560)
  7. Certificate of Naturalization (form N-570)
  8. Alien registration receipt card (Resident Alien, form I-551)
  9. Certificate of birth issued by the Department of State (form FS-545)
  10. U. S. citizens born abroad (form DS-1350)
  11. Marriage license (must have full name and date of birth)
  12. Certified school record on local school letterhead, signed by custodial of records (must have applicants full name and date of birth).
  13. Divorce papers (must have full name and date of birth, other ID will be required)
  14. Adoption papers (must have full name and date of birth, other ID will be required)
  15. Original DD-214 military discharge papers (must have other ID)
  16. Court ordered name change (with full name, date of birth, other ID required)
  17. Student identification (must have photograph)
  18. Employee identification (must have photograph)
  19. Police report
  20. Expired Polaroid driver license
  21. Medicaid Card or Medicare Card with Social Security Card
  22. Pistol permit with picture
  23. Voter registration card
  24. Selective service card
  25. Temporary Alabama driver license with picture

 

 For out-of-state new residents and first-time issuance of an Alabama driver license, you must apply at the following Alabama Department of Public Safety Office:

The License Commissioner’s office is able to issue a duplicate Alabama non-driver ID card. All duplicates are $18.00 each. For first-time issuance of an Alabama non-driver ID card, a customer must apply at the Alabama Department of Public Safety office.
